Hello my blog friends! I tell u what, 2016 has been a funny old year. I don’t know what sort of celestial misalignments have overshadowed the globe these past 12 months, but it’s not always been the best of times.

  1. I once held a little dinner party and bought some really cheap wine for the guests. My other half answered the door whilst i was preparing the food and gratefully received their wine (I didnt know this). whilst waiting for starters to finish cooking my other half passed round glasses of wine and it tasted aweful – I said ‘I knew we shouldn’t be drinking cheap rubbish -sorry everyone’ and was astounded by an awkward silence -“we brought that” said one of my guests- “its our favourite”, I wish the ground could have swallowed me up .

  2. One of a my favourite Christmas memories is the ‘Christmas Eve’ present. It came about in my early twenties when I lived in a house share and we all got a bit drunk and giddy and made each other open one of the presents we’d bought. For years til everyone had kids we used to get together for a party on Christmas eve and you had to buy everyone there a little Christmas Eve present. We also always had a Christmas Eve cocktail which included some good ones over the years. My favourite was one where you had a garnish of a lump of xmas pudding soaked in sambuca which was then set on fire!
