I was seriously impressed with the options available to me in Paris…..some careful planning was involved, but I also literally stumbled on two veggie/vegan restaurants and one organic/bio supermarket during the week. That doesn’t even happen here in Manchester!
First up was a planned visit to Loving Hut; I’ve heard rather dodgy things about the way the chain is run, so I’m not quite sure what to make of them on the overall, but my 3 course vegan dinner was quite special, in a very special way.
Not pictured here is the avocado salad I hoovered up in about 12 seconds for starters…. I followed with an absolutely perfect mushroom crepe (crispy edges, PERFECT) and finished with an indescribably yummy slice of chocolate cake. There was some serious walking to be done afterwards…. Loving Hut is at 92 Boulevard Beaumarchais, and the nearest metro stop is Saint-Sébastien-Froissart. (Also not pictured here is a hastily taken snap of my companion’s uneaten durian sorbet – we both agreed it tasted mostly of ass. This is the fault of the God that put durians on this earth, and not Loving Hut).
A truly wonderful discovery was a bio/organic supermarket within 5 minutes of our apartment. Located on the Rue du Faubourg-Poissonnière (nearest metro stop Poissonnière) it has the most wonderful selection of vegan staples……
(Speculoos infused dark chocolate is a staple, right?)
On the very same road, this café/restaurant was spotted (though not sampled):
Further afield, whilst hunting for the infamous Shakespeare & Co bookshop(s), this was spotted on the Rue du Cardinal Lemoine in the 5th arrondissment, but was sadly closed:
The final word may be merrily reserved for the wonderful Vegan Folie’s, located on the lovely Rue Mouffetard (nearest metro stop is Censier-Daubenton). A vegan cupcake shop in Paris? Who would have thought it! I limited myself to 3 sweet cupcakes (savoury are also offered) and though my loving embrace of the cake box during the metro journey back to the apartment melted the frosting slightly, all three were still a joy….
Do you have any great vegan Parisien recommendations? Let me know! And now for me…..back to reality.
